Halloween is not for a while away yet.... but I'm already getting in the mood...

Friday, April 04, 2008 The Pinocchio Effect

I found this little experiment on WikiHow. I wonder if it will work for a penis as well??? Hmmm... I'll have to run a clinical study this weekend...

How to Experience the Pinocchio Effect

Pinocchio! The Pinocchio effect, named after the fictional puppet-turned-boy of the same name, is a tactile illusion, an illusion that uses your sense of touch to "trick" your brain. Such illusions are remarkable because they challenge what we think we know about our perception of the world. Want to expand your nose and your mind? Try it out.

1. Arrange two chairs, one right behind the other. The chairs should both be facing the same direction.

2. Sit in the rear chair and have a friend sit in the chair in front of you.

3. Blindfold yourself or keep your eyes shut throughout the exercise.

4. Have your friend guide one of your hands to his or her nose. It will probably be easier to use your dominant hand for this part.

5. Bring your other hand up to your own nose.

6. Tap and stroke your friend's nose. Hopefully you're good friends, as this can seem a bit weird. Randomly alternate between tapping your friend's nose and lightly stroking it, as though you're trying to communicate with Morse Code. The more random your movements, the more likely you'll feel the Pinocchio effect. Be gentle.

7. Tap and stroke your own nose with identical movements. As you're tapping and stroking your friend's nose, use your other hand to reproduce the taps and strokes on your own nose. Try to synchronize the movements of your hands as closely as possible.

8. Continue for 30 seconds to a minute. After a while, you may start to feel as though your nose is three feet long (hence the name Pinocchio effect) or that your nose is somehow no longer connected to your body. Try it a couple times if it doesn't work the first time, and make sure the movements of your two hands are as identical as possible. If it still doesn't work, don't worry: about 50% of people can feel the Pinocchio effect, and you may be one of the other 50%.

Monday, March 31, 2008 Bathing with Bierko

I had the weirdest, yet kinda hot dream about Craig Bierko last night. (no details) And now this morning I find this:

Truly odd....

I didn't even know his name until this morning. I just remembered him from a couple episodes of Sex & the City & I saw a clip of him from Scary Movie 4 last night. Aha! That's how he showed up in the dream. Fucking Freudian. Also starring in my dream were my freaky neighbors, my Jason hockey mask, and some weird outdoor mall that was covered in snow (It kinda looked like the town in 30 Days of Night).... My dreams are just getting more & more random.

I had this rogue dream after laying back down from an early morning feline fracus. I was wakened at 4:00 to the sound of constant meowing & howling. I got up & could not find Zero, but could hear him LOUDLY. After looking in closets, bathrooms, & cabinets for about 10 minutes, I realized that he was inside the wall. INSIDE THE WALL!?! He must have got into the attic & made his way down into the walls. I had to get him out through an air return downstairs. My kids really need to stop pulling this kind of shit that early in the morning. Mondays are difficult enough without having to lose sleep for random canine & feline tomfoolery.

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 You say Potato, I say your full of Holy Sh*t

Pastor Renee Brewster reluctantly started making potato salad for church but was not entirely comfortable doing it, as Sister Frankie normally makes the dish. So she asked God for a sign, MyFoxOrlando.com reports.

"I was hesitant about making the potato salad because Sister Frankie makes the potato salad at church and I said, 'Lord, if it’s not for me to make potato salad then send me a sign.'"
Next she cut in half a potato and discovered it looked rotten. She only took a second look after her 10-year-old granddaughter said she saw an image of Jesus Christ on the Cross in the split potato.
On closer inspection, she saw the image, as well.

"That’s Jesus on the Cross. Just looking at it I don't have to convince," Brewster said.
She froze the potato heart and used the rest to make the salad, which was served during the weekly rescue mission.
Said Brewster: "I just want people to know God is still as real today as he was back then and he can show up anytime he gets ready."

This is almost as good as the Virgin Mary showing up as a nocturnal emission stain on my sheets.

Monday, March 19, 2007 Atlanta State Park

This weekend Craig & I went to Atlanta State Park in Atlanta, Tx. This is in the East Texas Piney Woods on Lake Wright Patman. Atlanta is a small, beautiful park with tall trees & big roomy campsites. They have some great beginner level trails, which was great since we took Xochitl on her first hiking adventure. During our day hike trough the main trails, we found 2 geocaches. I finally got to place my first Travel Bug in one of the caches. It's a pink & yellow diving squid attached to the travel bug tag.

I also found another geocacher's Trout-About travel bug which I'll be placing in another great caching location soon.

Here's a couple pics of the park during the day:

Just before dusk on Saturday we went for another hike on the park's interpretive trail. The terrain was much more fun since it had hills, bridges & creeks all along the winding trail. The park had recently performed a prescribed burn in this area, leaving the ground charred with downed trees lying about. It actually looked kind of creepy with nightfall approaching, making it seem like a haunted forest. By the time we were reaching the end of the trail it was getting pretty dark. About that time we started hearing the strangest noises coming from not too far away. It sounded like some sort of strange monkey-bird-cat creatures howling at us:

Here are some pics of the interpretive trail before it got dark...

We saw a nest of webworms while walking this trail...

A night pic of the camper...

Here's Craig in the puppy playpen...

Xochitl playing in the camper...

We also made this silly F13 video while out on the dusk hike:

During the trip, there was one odd thing that happened. While we were packing up on Sunday, a man, who for the purposes of this blog I've named Zeke, came by walking his chihuahua. Zeke must have been around 60, was very nice, very hick, & had maybe 3 or 4 teeth left in his entire head. He stopped & said hello, then asked if Xochitl is a chihuahua. I explained that she's an Italian Greyhound & told him that I do have a chihuahua that is at home. Zeke introduced me to his dog, tritely named "Taco Bell." He was so cute & friendly as I was petting him. That's when Zeke said "I don't know how to say this, but you must have the taco in you because he usually barks at everybody he meets." I knew what he meant, but was still kind of taken off guard by the statement. I've got the taco in me??? Hmmmm..... You always meet the fanciest characters when camping around Texas.

Friday, March 02, 2007 Metaphysical Weirdness

The past 2 days have been a bit odd in my neighborhood. Night before last, I was outside talking to a neighbor when a girl from another street came up to us in a panic. She had lost her cat & was frantically searching for it. I decided to help her out & walked the neighborhood for about an hour calling out for this missing kitty. Then I met the girl's mom. She was just as worried. I told her that I know how she feels, having lost a cat last year. She then proceeded to tell me that she had just called some friends who have a link to the "psychic realm" and that they are envisioning the cat outside, but very near the house. At this point I figure that they don't need my help any longer since apparently Dionne Warwick & Miss Cleo are on the case. I went back into the safety of my house to tell Craig about the psychic realm incident.
Then the next day, I have landscaping contractors working in the yard. Craig's mom had forwarned me about the oddness of one of the contractors. So I finally meet him & he's even weirder than I was told. He rambles & mumbles incoherently while talking to you & also when he's alone. As he is explaining the work he is doing he tells me that he is envisioning the yard project through his "third eye." He repeated this about 4 or 5 times & then began to ramble incoherently again. Once again I just went back into the safety of my house.
Now I'm just waiting to see what other metaphysical weirdness is lurking around the corner.
