I just rediscovered a pic of me & my mom. I was 16 and we were on our way to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As you can see, even back then I had a thing for fake blood! Oh what good times. My mom wouldn't dream of going to see RHPS these days. It would be too "sinful."

Texas Frightmare Weekend

Last year I met Bill Moseley at the Texas Frightmare Weekend. He was ever so nice & personable. I of course was starstruck & acted like a dork, all gushing over him. Oh well, at least I got to meet him & get a hug.

I also met Betsy Palmer, Tom Savini, Irwin Keyes, and Stu Charno of F13 fame. I got them all to sign my Crystal Lake Memories book.
I then got to meet Bill Hinzman from Night Of The Living Dead. As soon as he sees a camera come up, he goes straight into character. Fantastic!!!



This year the Texas Frightmare Weekend will be held June 22-24 and will be featuring appearances by George Romero, Adrienne Barbeau, Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, Kane Hodder, & Doug Bradley. I'm sure the guest list will be growing in the coming months!!!

Creepy Sculpture

I found this sculpture pic on CNN's offbeat photos site. It's so creepy, but I'd love to have it!

Geocaching

I recently started Geocaching while out camping. It's a fun little activity where you essentially go treasure hunting with a handheld GPS. You type in the coordinates of the cache you're looking for & then hike to the location. Then it gets tricky. You have to search high & low to find the cache, which may be as small as a film canister or as large as an ammo box. They are usually camouflaged and hidden in all kinds of location like in a hollow tree stumps, under rocks, underwater, or cleverly disguised right in plain sight. So far I've found 5 caches at Cedar Hill State Park. Once you find the cache, you sign the logbook & take or leave an item. Most of the items I've found so far are small trinkets, like hotwheels, plastic bugs, coins, etc... Soon I'll be setting up a couple of my own caches. I'm going to have a generic cache with typical items and I also want to setup a couple of themed caches. One is going to be a Halloween/Friday the 13th themed cache with fun items like spider rings, glowsticks, fake blood, etc.. Then I want to setup a Star Wars themed cache with action figures, trading cards, etc...

I also got a couple of Travel Bug dog tags to place in my caches. Once someone finds them, they will transport them to another cache & log them on the Geocaching website. As these Travel Bugs move around, I will be able to track them on the Internet & read people's stories about how they found or placed them.

Thursday, January 11, 2007 Daingerfield

This past weekend Craig and I went to Daingerfield State Park in Daingerfield, TX. We got there after dark and there were only two other campsites filled in our area. We setup in site #13. It was pretty cold and dark when we setup. Very dark. The park is small and heavily wooded with lots of tall pine trees mixed with overgrowth. The next day we went hiking on a nice wooded trail that leads to the opposite side of the park. The lake is small and clean. The sky was clear, making for fantastic reflections on the water. Later that day we drove into historic Jefferson & meandered around downtown. It is a hodgepodge of antique stores and mom & pop shops, including a general store. Not a whole lot there, but it was interesting & quaint. The tip of Big Cypress Bayou starts here as well, which leads all the way to Caddo Lake in Uncertain, TX. That was cool because we love exploring the sloughs and bayous of Caddo Lake by boat.













The next two pics are of Craig & I at Tyler State Park the previous weekend. That weekend was COLD & RAINY!!! We still had a great time though...

Xochitl

We got a new puppy just before Xmas. She is an Italian Greyhound. We named her Xochitl (pronounced "So-cheel") which is an Aztec word for flower. Actually we chose her name from the tortilla chips that we buy. You can check them out here

OK, so here is the rundown of my 2006 Halloween disaster.

Now, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I always put a lot of effort into the whole event. The weekend before, I went to Screams Haunted Houses in Waxahachie, TX which was fantastic. I was pretty sure everything was going great this season. Halloween day hits & everyone at work loves my costume & I'm told I'm sure to win, as there were very few costumes worn. I dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow & put a lot of work into the outfit & character.

Then came the contest... (Play Price is Right losing music here....)

I entered the costume contest at work & did not even make the finals. Below are the other entries.

In 1st place was a team effort for 101 Dalmations. OK, I'll give it to them. Teams always win out.

So then I head home to prepare for the trick-or-treaters & my fog machine blows up. Then I only got about 8 knocks at the door all night. BUMMER! But my next door neighbor comes over with his son & procedes to tell me that my decorations are great, but the demon in the window is a "bit disconcerting..." DISCONCERTING????

I'm about to blow off his remark when he tells me that he needs my help this year to hang angels all around the neighborhood for Christmas this year, which I found a bit disconcerting. He then tells me that he needs my help because his wife is unable to help this year because she is pregnant with twins. To this I respond with congratulations. He then tells me that the twins are not theirs. I look very confused at this point, to which he explains that they are surrogating for a good friend & also adds "This sure has been a DRY SPELL for me lately." Now I'm finding the whole thing EXTREMELY DISCONCERTING!!!! The guys gonna make comments about a rubber demon in my window, then force me to hang angels & listen about how his best friend's semen was turkey-basted into his wife & how he now is going through a dry spell... What does he want from me, a handjob?

Needless to say, this Halloween was a bust & now I'm also kind of freaked by the neighbors...
