Wednesday, April 28, 2010 15th Anniversay Camping Weekend

Last week was mine & Craig's 15th anniversary. We headed out on Wednesday for a long weekend of camping, relaxing, & amusement.

The first 2 nights we stayed at Palmetto State Park. It was swampy, lush, & beautiful.

Thursday night we made a huge grill out dinner with steak & chicken kebabs, portabello mushrooms, and asparagus.

We went on a few day hikes & did some geocaching. I found 2 caches on Thursday. We ran across a baby rattler on Friday.

The next 3 nights we stayed at Landa RV park right on the Comal River in New Braunfels, Tx. We saw a 6 foot water mocassin swimming right behind our campsite. We swam in the river quite a bit & I went skinny dipping one night. The trains were loud as usual.

While there, we went to the Snake Farm, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Schlitterbahn, Landa Park, & also ate at the Gristmill in Gruene, Tx twice.

It was a pretty damn good anniversary. I love ya babe!

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 14th Anniversary Part 2

We celebrated our anniversary again this past weekend. This time we drove down to New Braunfels, Tx. W took our camper & stayed at Landa RV Park. On Saturday we went to Schlitterbahn. We had way too much fun, as you can see from the videos below.





Later that night we ate at The Gristmill Restaurant in Gruene, Tx. Awesome food & atmosphere. We go there at least once a year, if not more.





On Sunday we went tubing down the Comal River. It was a bitty chilly & overcast, but I still managed to get a light sunburn. I had 2 incidents on the river that day, both within 5 minutes of eachother. I went down the first tube chute & crashed into a kayaker. Then right after that, I went over a small fall & got sucked underwater about 15 feet away & my tube was stuck in the fall undercurrent. I kept trying to creep my way back to it, but the current was too strong. A nearby kayaker came by & went over the fall to rescue my tube.

On the way home we stopped back in Gruene & ate lunch at The Gristmill again. I also got these awesome shoes called Fivefingers:

Monday, April 27, 2009 14th Anniversary Part 1

Craig & I reached our 14th anniversary on April 23rd. It was midweek, so we decided to celebrate both the weekend before and after.

On Friday the 17th we went out for a great dinner then spent the night a boutique hotel called Aloft. It was pretty groovy, but not as cool as some other boutiques we've stayed in. We still had a great time. And we both got iPhones, which is awesome!

I loved the floor in the elevator. It had this blue liquid that squished around when you walked on it. It would have been so awesome in blood red. Very Dressed To Kill.

Monday, April 16, 2007 Anniversary Weekend at Caddo Lake

Craig & I celebrated our 12th anniversary this weekend! Actually it's not until the 23rd, but we decided to celebrate with a camping trip on Friday the 13th!

Craig & I spent our anniversary at our favorite place in Texas, Caddo Lake State Park. It is the only natural lake in Texas. The lake itself is swamp & marshland with miles of sloughs & bayous to explore. We had a great time, even though we had a cold front come in which made it freezing while on the lake. We're going to go back again this summer when it will be hot & a lot of creatures should be scurrying around. The only thing we saw this time was some deer out on an island. We still have yet to see any snakes or alligators, which there are many in the area.

On the Texas State Park website, it lists this info: Activities enjoyed include camping, hiking, swimming, picnicking, nature study, fishing, and boating.
Naturalists can enjoy stately cypress trees, American lotus, and lily pads, waterfowl, alligators, turtles, frogs, snakes, raccoons, minks, nutrias, beavers, squirrels, armadillos, and white-tailed deer.

I don't know about you, but I'm not so sure about swimming anywhere that alligators may be present!

We always rent a boat from Crip's Camp, located in Uncertain, Tx. Uncertain is a tiny town with a population of 150. We spent around 5 or 6 hours exploring the lake & locating a couple geocaches along the way. Geocaching was trickier then normal because everything looks camouflaged with all the spanish moss hanging from the trees. We also briefly got stuck on an underwater beaver dam. But after some paddling & shifting our weight on the boat, we were able to free ourselves & backtrack out of the shallow area...

At the campsite we had a good time playing games & going hiking for a while. On Friday night we had to help out some neighboring campers who had run down their truck battery & were stranded in the rain, We ran back to our truck to help jump them off & also flagged down a forest ranger who assisted us. There was also an old man a couple sites down that had the cutest little dog. The funny thing was that the first time we saw him was when the man stumbled into our site trying to catch his dog, who had gotten away from him. Once he caught him, the man kept getting tangled in the leash & almost fell over. Then for the next 2 days, every time we saw the man he was always either tangled in the leash or running after the dog. This was a little dog, not some huge one that could drag you down the street, but maybe about 10 lbs. I couldn't help but laugh. Now it all made since why it took the man over an hour to back his camper into his site. LOL

Here are some pics from the trip. With the sky being overcast, the pictures came out kind of grey, instead of the usual colorful pics I get when it is sunny. And all the pictures of the 2 of us were either blurry or we looked stupid because we were freezing. LOL
